In the information released by ITIA, tennis player Adam El Mihdawy was accused of manipulation of results in an event in 2016. Due to his high level in the ATP ranking, the tennis player ended up having his case judged by Professor Richard H. McLaren, who sentenced him to four years away from the sport.

Despite this, there was a reduction in the tennis player's sentence as he waited for the outcome of the appeal of his sentence. Therefore, El Mihdawy's penalty was three and a half years.

The tennis player's official conviction began on September 1, 2022, and should last until February 28, 2026. In a statement, the ITIA revealed that the tennis player must still pay a fine of US$ 5,000 and another US$ $10.000. In addition, there is still an investigation going on into the tennis player's violations in relation to the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP).

According to the informed note, the tennis player is under investigation into violations of the following sections: D.1.d, D.1.f and D.2.a.i. To explain the following sections, the ITIA itself informed the TACP laws in the document.

Section D.1.d:No Covered Person shall, directly or indirectly, contrive the outcome, or any other aspect, of any Event.”

Section D.1.f:No Covered Person shall, directly or indirectly, receive any money, benefit or Consideration on the basis of not giving their best efforts in any Event and/or negatively influencing another Player’s best efforts in any Event.”

Section D.2.a.i:In the event any Player is approached by any person who requests the Player to (i) influence the outcome or any other aspect of any Event, or (ii) provide Inside Information, it shall be the Player’s obligation to report such incident to the ITIA as soon as possible.”

It is important to say that, recently, the ITIA has been revealing several scandals of match-fixing in tennis. One of the most recent cases was Italian referee Lorenzo Chiurazzi, who ended up receiving a 7-year ban from any involvement with the sport.

According to the ITIA itself, the Italian referee violated a series of rules and committed irregularities in the tennis sports sector, which culminated in a 7-year suspension and a further fine of US$50,000. Unlike the American tennis player, the Italian referee refused to collaborate with the integrity authorities to conclude the case, and that turned out to be worse for Chiurazzi.

According to information from ITIA, the Italian referee committed irregularities related to altering scores and grades during official matches in the year 2021. Furthermore, among other irregularities, the referee at no time reported any suspicious activity of result manipulations. Therefore, Chiurazzi was eventually suspended for 7 years from the sport and must pay a fine of $50,000.
