The best known competition in the world of football is close to its return, even at a troubled time in human history. And in this historic edition, very qualified teams face each other in very close matches, where the smallest of disadvantages can be crucial. And to add more fuel to the fire, some teams arrive with important absences in this final stretch of the Champions League. On Friday (08/08) and Saturday (08/08), the payoffs for the round of 16 will be defined, with the quarterfinals of the competition starting next week, on a very tight schedule.

Thus, with the great stoppage, some teams competing in the competition had comings and goings of players. Below, we have prepared a brief summary to list some absences for the return of the championship.

Absences listed below:

RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig lost their main highlight, striker Timo Werner, who moved to Chelsea. Werner scored 34 goals and made 12 assists in the 45 games he played for Leipzig this season. Now, Leipzig will face Atlético de Madrid in the quarter-finals, without their main star.

However, Chelsea will not have Timo Werner as a reinforcement in the Champions League, as the maximum deadline for enrolling players in the finals was only until the 3rd of February.

Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain are yet another team to have casualties for this decisive phase of the Champions League. One of those casualties is Edinson Cavani, who refused to stay at the club until the end of the competition. However, Cavani is not the only one, as right-back Thomas Meunier has moved to Borussia Dortmund, and defender Tanguy Nianzou to Bayern Munich. These are PSG's absences for the Champions League.

Manchester City

The giant English club will have the loss of Leroy Sané, who was another player who moved to Bayern Munich.

Lyon

Lyon will also suffer casualties for the next decisive stages of the competition, as Lucas Tousart and Martin Terrier moved to Hertha Berlin and Rennes, respectively. As a reminder, in Lyon's first leg match against Juventus, the French team won the match on account of Tousart's goal. The game ended in 1-0 for Lyon.

Barcelona

Although Barcelona completed Arthur's sale to Juventus, the midfielder would remain with the Spanish club until the end of the season, and only after that would he go to the Italian club. However, since he was sold, Arthur has not returned to training and was asking for his termination, so that he can go immediately to Maurizio Sarri's Juventus. Barça's president even spoke of the player's "lack of respect" with the club and his teammates.
